Overview

Emergency medicine services at North Shore Medical Center include adult and pediatric emergency departments on the NSMC Salem Hospital campus, and an adult emergency department at NSMC Union Hospital in Lynn. Our emergency medicine physicians care for more than 90,000 patients every year. Our Cardiac Point of Entry Center and our Level III Trauma Center are located at NSMC Salem Hospital. Both NSMC Salem Hospital and NSMC Union Hospital are designated Stroke Centers.   Read more

Our Emergency Departments strive to see all patients as promptly as possible.

Please be aware that waiting times do increase if a seriously ill or injured patient arrives and must be seen ahead of others whose condition is not as critical.

Level Three Trauma Center


NSMC has been certified a Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons. Level III recognizes our trauma center's ability to provide optimal care for critically injured patients.

Stroke Center

North Shore Medical Center is a designated Stroke Center, which means our emergency departments are able to rapidly diagnosis and treat stroke patients. NSMC Salem Hospital has received the American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke (GWTG–­Stroke) Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. NSMC Union also holds a Gold Plus status.
