Pediatric Infectious Disease

Infectious disease consultations are available for pediatric patients on the inpatient unit at MassGeneral for Children at North Shore Medical Center, and for patients in our pediatric emergency department. Newborns in the Birthplace and Special Care Nursery are evaluated for pediatric infectious disease as needed. Outpatient consultations can be scheduled by calling 978.354.2760. Patients with tuberculosis can make an appointment with an infectious disease specialist through the North Shore Pulmonary Clinic at 978.745.4489.

Common reasons for consultation include:

  • Methicillin-resistant Staphyloccus aureus (MRSA)
  • Lyme disease
  • Fever of unknown origin
  • Recurrent infections or fevers
  • Work-up of immunodeficiency
  • Osteomyelitis and septic arthritis (deep bone and joint infections)
  • Travelers’ health

Community physicians and other providers with questions about diagnosis and management of pediatric infections are invited to contact us for advice. Our pediatric infectious disease physicians belong to North Shore Physicians Group (NSPG), a key component of NSMC.
