Meet Jason Maxwell 2012 North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN Chairman
3/16/2012

Fed up. That’s how I feel about cancer. After losing my father in 1988 and my brother-in-law in 2007 and seeing how cancer has touched the lives of so many of my friends and colleagues, I’m fed up with the disease. That’s why, in 2010, I formed Team Fed Up With Cancer to help raise funds to support the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center. It’s also one of the reasons I’m honored to chair the 2012 North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN.

I was nine years old when my father lost his battle with liver cancer at the age of 35. During his illness, he often traveled to Baltimore for treatment at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Needless to say, it was hard for me and my siblings to be separated from our dad while he was sick. Thanks to the Mass/General North Shore Cancer Center, patients in our community don’t have to leave home to get the best in cancer care. From leading experts to world-class facilities to the latest in medical and technological advances, they can get everything they need right in their backyard.

One of the gifts my father passed on to me was his fighting spirit. That legacy is part of what drove me to join the battle against cancer when I participated in my first North Shore Cancer WALK in 2006, and it’s what motivates me today to ensure that this year’s WALK/RUN is the most successful yet.

Whether as patients, caregivers, family members, friends or colleagues, everyone is impacted by cancer, and each of us has a role to play in bringing it to an end. I hope you’ll join us on Sunday, June 24 at The Willows in Salem to help advance cancer care on the North Shore. I can’t think of a better way to honor those we’ve lost to cancer and rally support for those who are fighting—and living with—the disease.
