North Shore Physicians Earn Top Honors

North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) honored Terence Doorly, M.D., chief of neurosurgery, with the Physician of Excellence Award and Joseph Miaskiewicz, M.D., chief of utilization review and clinical documentation, with the Dr. E. Augustus Holyoke Memorial Award, during a ceremony held at the Salem Country Club in Peabody.

NSMC Physician of Excellence Award

Dr. Doorly was honored with the Physician of Excellence Award in recognition of the profound and lasting impact he has made on the North Shore community through his perseverance, professionalism and commitment to his patients and colleagues.

 

“Dr. Doorly personifies excellence in patient care at North Shore Medical Center,” said Marc Rubin, M.D., chair of surgery at NSMC. “In almost 40 years in health care, he has excelled in and outside the operating room, building a record of achievement and an exceptional reputation.”

 

The Physician of Excellence Award is considered the highest honor among NSMC’s medical staff and recognizes physicians who have made outstanding contributions to NSMC, the medical profession and the community.

 

“I am humbled to be included among the recipients of this distinguished honor,” said Dr. Doorly. “I consider myself lucky to work alongside them and the many other dedicated and talented professionals at North Shore Medical Center.”

 

Dr. Doorly received his medical degree from Trinity College at the University of Dublin and completed fellowships at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the University of Toronto, Canada. He is a member of multiple international medical organizations. Dr. Doorly serves as medical director at North Shore Physicians Group (NSPG) Neurosurgery and Spine in Peabody. He is a member of the NSMC Surgical Services Leadership Council, the NSMC Opioid Task Force and the NSMC Peer Support Committee.

 

Dr. E. Augustus Holyoke Memorial Award

Dr. Miaskiewicz was honored with the Dr. E. Augustus Holyoke Memorial Award in recognition of his leadership, expertise and commitment to bringing a higher level of care, safety and quality to North Shore patients.

 

“I’m extremely honored to receive this award,” Dr. Miaskiewicz said. “I’m grateful to have the work I care so passionately about acknowledged in such a meaningful way, and it’s that much more special knowing I was nominated by my colleagues.”

 

Dr. Holyoke, for whom the Holyoke Award is named, was an eminent 18th-century Salem physician whose professional life spanned generations, having a tremendous positive impact on the health and well being of his community.

 

Prior to his current role, Dr. Miaskiewicz served as the Chief of Hospital Medicine from 2008 to 2014. In recent years, he has developed multiple patient safety and quality initiatives through strides in his clinical research.

 

Dr. Miaskiewicz received his medical degree from Boston University Medical School. He completed his residency at Boston City Hospital followed by a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Boston University Medical School.
