North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) was recently honored with an “A” Hospital Safety ScoreSM by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits committed to encouraging safer, higher quality healthcare. Both NSMC Salem Hospital and NSMC Union Hospital received the top ranking.
“This recognition by The Leapfrog Group is proof that our improvement efforts and our commitment to providing a safe environment is making a profound difference for our patients,” said NSMC President and CEO Robert Norton.
Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s nine-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors. More than 2,600 hospitals were evaluated and assigned consumer-friendly scores from A to F. An “A” grade denotes the best hospital safety score.
