North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) pediatric dentist, Steven P. Perlman, D.D.S., M.Sc.D.,D.H.L., received NSMC’s 2013 Dr. E. Augustus Holyoke Memorial Award for his professional excellence and commitment to serving our community.

Dr. Perlman received this award for his dedication to improving the lives of children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities. He is the only graduate in the history of Goldman School of Dental Medicine to be recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus of Dental school and of Boston University. He has published more than 200 articles and his textbook Treating the Dental Patient with a Developmental Disorder is used in many dental and hygiene schools. In 2009, Dr. Perlman was honored by the Special Olympics in Shanghai, China with the Special Lifetime Global Leadership award in promoting human dignity.

 

“This award is for the community, for the nurses, post-operation doctors, anesthesiologist department and all of my staff who provide outstanding care. It has been a privilege to practice in an area with such strong hospitals and quality physicians. It is because of these resources that my patients are able to get the best care available to them,” said Dr. Perlman.

Dr. Holyoke, for whom the Holyoke Award is named, was an eminent 18th century Salem physician, whose professional life spanned generations, having a tremendous impact on the health and well being of his community. Each year, the recipient of this award is nominated by his/her peers. This year the Ballou Lecture and Holyoke Award took place on Thursday, November 14th at the Kernwood Country Club in Salem, Massachusetts.
