NSMC News Releases
Staff at North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) Salem and Union hospitals will participate in an emergency preparedness drill. NSMC Salem Hospital will have the drill on October 18 and NSMC Union Hospital will have the drill on October 19. These drills are a way to enhance coordination between NSMC and the Fire Department in the event of a public disaster.
According to Bill Klag, NSMC Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, the purpose of the drills is to have the Salem and Lynn Fire Departments train NSMC non-clinical staff in emergency response. Emergency room traffic will not be affected by the drills.
The drill will focus on hazardous materials decontamination. Coordinated with the Salem and Lynn Fire Departments, the drill will involve volunteer "victims" and the set-up of NSMC’s Mass Decontamination Unit in front of the NSMC Salem and NSMC Union Hospital Emergency Department entrances.
