North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) Risk Manager Carrie Arrieta has earned the designation of Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) by the American Hospital Association Certification Center. Administered since 2000, the CPHRM is a national credential that distinguishes an individual as being among an elite group of risk management professionals. 

As a Healthcare Risk Manager, Arrieta’s primary duties are to ensure the safety of patients, staff and visitors as well as to provide high quality, safe and effective health care. “We are so proud of Carrie’s accomplishment,” says Janet Barnes, Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety at NSMC. “This designation verifies her knowledge in a broad array of health care risk management areas and aligns perfectly with NSMC’s commitment to patient safety.”

The CPHRM certification program supports the community of health care risk management professionals and is designed to provide a national standard of requisite knowledge for which to asses this critical role in health care. To earn the CPHRM certification, an individual must satisfy eligibility requirements that incorporate a blend of education and associated health care-specific professional experience, agree to adhere to the AHA professional standards of conduct, and pass the CPHRM certification examination. 

Arrieta, who has worked at NSMC for nearly eight years, is the first risk manager at NSMC to earn this designation. “It’s gratifying to reach this milestone,” says Arrieta. “I look forward to continuing to use what I’ve learned during the certification process to serve NSMC’s patients and their families.”
