NSMC has a long tradition of giving back to the communities on the North Shore.
Women's Health Initiative:
Free screening services to low income women
We recently joined the Massachusetts Department of Public Health in the Women's Health Network, which provides free screening services to low-income women in partnership with the Lynn Community Health Center and the North Shore Community Health, Inc. centers in Salem and Peabody. The goal of this innovative program is to increase the survival rate of breast and cervical cancer patients. NSMC and these community health centers work together to eliminate linguisitic, cultural and transportation barriers to treatment for hundreds of women on the North Shore who have insufficient or nonexistent health care coverage.
Community Benefits Program and Community Health Improvement Fund
North Shore Medical Center has two complementary programs designed to improve the health status of the communities we serve. Our Community Benefits Program works with residents and organizations to achieve measurable and sustainable improvements in the health care that North Shore's underserved population receives. The NSMC Community Health Improvement Fund provides monetary support for innovative community-based projects that promote good health and wellness.
The Community Health Improvement Fund provides grants ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 to organizations working on community health issues in locations within the NSMC service area. Community-based prevention is the best medicine, and in 2007 NSMC was honored to award grants totaling $40,000 to seven organizations that are benefiting the physical and mental health of local residents of all ages.
