About NSMC

NSMC has a long tradition of giving back to the North Shore community.

Women's Health Initiative:

Together with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health in the Women's Health Network, NSMC provides free screening services to low-income women living on the North Shore.

The goal of this innovative program is to increase the survival rate of breast and cervical cancer patients.

We work in partnership with the Lynn Community Health Center (pictured here) to eliminate the linguistic, cultural and transportation barriers to treatment for those with insufficient or nonexistent health care coverage.

Crossroads

NSMC partners with HAWC (Healing Abuse Working for Change) in Salem to provide area women who are experiencing domestic violence with access to crisis intervention, safety planning, weekly support and more. Crossroads services are free, voluntary and confidential.

Two hospital-based advocates provide crisis intervention to NSMC patients and staff, and also provide training throughout NSMC. If a patient wants to talk with a Crossroads advocate she can do so while at NSMC, or meet with an advocate after being discharged.

Hospital advocacy is a critical opportunity for intervention for many of our patients. Frequently, victims of domestic abuse are more comfortable confiding in health care providers about the dangers they are facing than they are with others.
