Swampscott - Whole Foods in Swampscott and the North Shore Medical Center will host a NSMC Cancer Walk kickoff event from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, when registered walkers can pick up fundraising kits and enjoy a complimentary food tasting.

In addition, on the day of the kickoff, the Swampscott Whole Foods Market will donate 5 percent of store sales to the NSMC Cancer Walk. People can RSVP for the kickoff by e-mailing to info@nsmccancerwalk.org or by calling 866-296-6900.

The NSMC Cancer Walk in Salem has raised more than $13 million in the fight again cancer. Each walker typically raises $100 or more — money that will directly benefit the expansion and relocation of the NSMC Cancer Center to the Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care, slated to opening Danvers in 2009. The state-of-the-art facility will ensure continued access to comprehensive and coordinated medical, surgical, and radiation oncology care in a compassionate, community-based environment.
