Salem, Mass. – North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) has honored 11 nurses for outstanding service by awarding the Broadhead Award, the NSMC Nursing Leadership Award, and the Blodgett Nursing Award.
The Broadhead Award was created by Eleanor Broadhead who endowed the Broadhead Program for Excellence in Nursing in 1995, in memory of her sister, Elizabeth, who volunteered as a nurse during World War II. The Broadhead Award for clinical excellence in nursing was presented to four nurses from NSMC Salem Hospital, NSMC Union Hospital and Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital. The honorees included:
- Jo Ann Connick, R.N., NSMC Union Hospital
- Jean Lee-Caccia, R.N., NSMC Salem Hospital
- Marie McDermott, R.N., NSMC Salem Hospital
- Roselyn Zulu, R.N., Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital
The Eleanor Broadhead Award for Advanced Practice Clinical Excellence was given to:
- Melissa Ayer, R.N., Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital
The NSMC Nursing Leadership Award recognizes nurse managers who exemplify the professional nurse and organizational values of NSMC through their management and leadership skills. These nurse managers excel in quality improvement, employee satisfaction, financial management and patient satisfaction. This award was presented to:
- Lana Danish, R.N., NSMC Salem Hospital
- Nancy Garrity, R.N., NSMC Union Hospital
- Sandra Moar, R.N., Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital
- Julie Veiga, R.N., NSMC Salem Hospital
Nominated by their peers, the recipients of the fourth annual Donald W. Blodgett Exemplary Service Award demonstrate extraordinary service to their patients, families and nursing colleagues. This award honors the late Donald W. Blodgett, who served as an NSMC trustee for 30 years. Recipients included:
