NSMC Physicians Receive Top Honor

Salem, Mass. – North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) honored Heinz Konrad Grohs, M.D., and Ronald Weinger, M.D., with a Physician of Excellence Award, at a ceremony at the Salem Country Club in Peabody, Mass. The Physician of Excellence Award is considered the highest honor among NSMC’s medical staff, and recognizes physicians who have made outstanding contributions to NSMC, the medical profession and the community.

Dr. Grohs, director of the Division of Cytopathology at NSMC, received the Physician of Excellence Award for his skill and compassion in caring for patients. He also served as the associate chief of the department of pathology at NSMC Salem Hospital from 1990 to 2003.

Dr. Grohs received his medical degree from the University of Vienna Medical School and completed residencies at St. Louis City Hospital, the University Hospital at the University of Vienna, the University of Tennessee and the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was a research fellow at the Boltzmann Institute for Leukemia Research and Hematology in Vienna, Austria, and completed a fellowship at the M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute, in Houston, Texas. Dr. Grohs now lives in Manchester.

Dr. Weinger has earned the honor in recognition of his commitment to providing exceptional hematology and medical oncology care to his patients at the NSMC Cancer Center. He joined North Shore Medical Group, Inc., in Lynn in 1984 and then joined the NSMC Cancer Center in 1996.

Dr. Weinger received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School and completed residencies in internal medicine at the Boston Veterans Administration Medical Center. He completed fellowships in hematology at Boston City Hospital and Tufts-New England Medical Center. He is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology.

Dr. Weinger has also served as a major in the United States Army and has held various teaching positions, including assistant professor of medicine at Boston University Medical School and the University of Texas. Dr. Weinger now lives in Newton.
