Salem, Mass. –After 14 successful years of bringing high quality, compassionate cancer treatment to patients of the North Shore, the NSMC Cancer Center is moving to a bigger and better location, and changing its name to better reflect its collaboration with the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center.

On June 1, 2009, the new Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center will open its doors. The expanded new home will be inside the much anticipated Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care, located at 102 Endicott Street in Danvers. As part of this transition, Mass General has added all of NSMC’s cancer physicians to its medical staff and will continue to collaborate with NSMC to extend its special brand of care to the North Shore.

Patients will still see the same friendly faces and receive the same compassionate care they have in the past. In addition, highlights of the new space include:

- A more spacious facility

- 24 infusion bays for chemotherapy overlooking beautiful wetlands and equipped with individual flat-screen televisions

- 3 state-of-the-art linear accelerators for radiation therapy, with plans for a fourth

- Expanded exam rooms in both medical and radiation oncology

- A blood drawing station

- An on-site café

- A resource center with patient education and internet access

- Wi-Fi access throughout the entire building

- A relaxing healing garden, designed to capture the therapeutic benefits of nature

“This is an exciting time for both our patients and our physicians,” said Joel Schwartz, M.D., director of oncology at the NSMC Cancer Center. “This beautiful new facility is state-of-the-art, much more spacious, and will enable us work with patients more effectively.”
