American College of Radiology certification marks high quality of service and technology
Salem, Mass. – North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) Salem Hospital’s all-digital breast imaging center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Through the Center of Excellence designation, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of the ACR’s voluntary breast imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory mammography accreditation program.
The breast imaging services at NSMC Salem Hospital are fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that NSMC Salem Hospital has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
NSMC provides all-digital screening mammography services at three locations on the North Shore – NSMC Salem Hospital, NSMC Union Hospital in Lynn and the NSMC Women’s Center in Danvers– all of which are certified in mammography by the ACR. NSMC also manages the mammography service at Lynn Community Health Center, which is also certified by the ACR.
This summer, the NSMC Salem Hospital breast imaging center will be relocating to the fourth floor of the Phippen building, conveniently located near the main entrance and free valet parking. The new space will feature its own registration and waiting area, private patient interview rooms and patient-friendly décor.
The ACR is a national, professional organization serving more than 32,000 radiologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of radiology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
