More than $40K given to North Shore community programs

Salem, Mass. – North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) is pleased to announce the 7th year of the Community Health Improvement Fund (CHIF). This community-based grant program supports innovative groups that promote good health and wellness on the North Shore. The focus of CHIF is to support special short-term opportunities whose objectives can be demonstrated in a calendar year.

Available to programs in the NSMC primary service area, applications are now being accepted through Friday, January 11, 2008. The primary service area includes: Salem, Lynn, Peabody, Lynnfield, Danvers, Saugus, Marblehead, Swampscott and Nahant.

Preference will be given to community organizations that focus projects on community health, social service and under-served populations.

“The CHIF grants are an extension of North Shore Medical Center’s mission to improve the health and well-being of our North Shore neighbors,” said Robert G. Norton, President and CEO of NSMC. “We are pleased to offer the grants again this year, so they might help a new initiative or an existing wellness program. Together, NSMC and our community organizations can make a difference in the health of our communities.”

The grant ranges from $1,500 to $10,000 and will be awarded in the early spring of 2008.
