Bruce Getchell (non-Hodgkins testicular lymphoma survivor)

For someone who is officially retired, 68-year-old Bruce Getchell is a busy man. The former transportation supervisor works part-time as a truck driver for Boston Steel Manufacturing Company, delivering truck chassis throughout the northeastern United States. When he's not on the road, he likes to spend time with his family and especially his six grandchildren.

In February 2005, Getchell's busy life changed dramatically when he received a diagnosis of non-Hodgkins testicular lymphoma. After undergoing surgery, he opted to receive chemotherapy at the NSMC Cancer Center because of its excellent reputation for quality care and its proximity to home. There he was the patient of Dr. Joel Schwartz, Director of Oncology Services at the Cancer Center and also Chief of Hematology and Oncology.

UPDATE:   Three months after his diagnosis Getchell began the first of six, three-week cycles of chemotherapy at the NSMC Cancer Center. Just over a year later he was pronounced "cancer-free" and has remained so ever since.
