Nutrition counseling is provided by registered dietitians at the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center. Our dietitians work with patients before, during and after treatment to promote the best possible response to the treatment.
Cancer treatments tend to have side effects that cause appetite and weight loss. Experience has shown that early intervention and close monitoring of a patient's nutritional intake throughout his or her cancer therapy is associated with a lower mortality rate and improved quality of life and strength.
Our dietitians see all patients who are defined to be at the greatest risk for nutritional deficits. They also work with patients who require nutritional assistance.
