The Neurodevelopmental
Center at NSMC North Shore Children's Hospital
provides comprehensive assessments and follow-up services to individuals with learning, developmental, emotional or behavioral
difficulties (we treat from
birth through adulthood). Our comprehensive
assessments are designed to provide a better understanding of an
individual's difficulties at home, school and at the workplace.
The wide range of concerns we assess include:
- Learning Problems
- Attention and Organizational Disorders (ADD, ADHD)
- Developmental Disorders
- Autism
- Pervasive Developmental Delay
- Aspergers syndrome
- Mental retardation
- Brain trauma
- Behavioral and /or emotional problems
- Dementia
The types of services offered
include; comprehensive neuropsychological assessments,
psychological/personality assessment, attention deficit disorder
assessments/screening, psychoeducational assessments, school and professional
consultation, time-limited family and individual therapy for children and
adolescents with identified learning and/or attention issues and social skills
group for children with identified learning issues. The NDC is staffed by psychologists with a
wide array of interests ranging from infant development, child, adolescent
adult and older adult, neuropsychology.
Referrals
Referrrals can be made by parents, physicians, schools or other
professionals. Upon receipt of an intake
form, an authorization for testing will be obtained by the NDC, and an
appointment for the evaluation will be
scheduled. Please note that many
insurance companies may require prior authorizations or may not cover
assessment services if the service is solely for educational purposes or
for diagnosing a learning disability.
