Volunteering at NSMC
Patient Care Assignments

Ambulatory Care Greeter
Greet patients as they arrive for outpatient services; direct to registration area and escort to appropriate department for testing or treatment.

EKG Greeter
Greet patients, assist with office work, and escort patients to other areas of hospital, as needed.

Emergency Department Greeter
Greet patients and families who arrive at the Emergency Department for evaluation and treatment. Act as a liaison between the Emergency Department staff and patient/families. Provide information and comfort to patients, families and visitors.

Nursing Unit Volunteer
Work with staff to assist with errands, office work and patient requests.

Patient Representatives
Assist with surveying patients about their stay at NSMC.

Room Service
Deliver newspapers, patient mail and movies upon request to patient's rooms.

Surgi Center Volunteer
Provide comforts to patients in the recovery area, such as
snacks, blankets, etc. Transport patients to their cars upon discharge and
perform light clerical duties.




General

Clerical Assistance
Provide office assistance to various departments throughout the hospital as needed.

Contact Volunteer
Call selected elderly patients who live independently to check on their well being. Calls take about 20 minutes one day during the week and can be made from your home.

Food Services
Assist patients with menu selections on an assigned floor. Deliver completed menus to Food Services for processing.

Gift Shop
Work as a cashier/stockperson in our gift shops. Cash register experience is helpful, but not necessary. Training will be provided.

Medical Library
Shelving books, photocopying articles from journals and other library functions as skills allow.

Youth Positions
Junior volunteers do a variety of tasks that include support work for the Volunteer Office, transporting patients in our Surgi Center, helping out in the Pine Gift Shop and other areas of the hospital as needed.
