Insurance, Disability, Tuition Reimbursement, Employee Assistance

NSMC offers some of the best healthcare plans available, with many affordable options designed to fit the needs of you and your family. These include:

  • Partners Value
  • Delta Dental
  • Davis Vision

The Partners Plus and Partners Value plan is administered by AllWays Health Partners and encompasses a very large and comprehensive network of top hospitals located throughout New England.

All deductions are pre-tax and extend to you, your family, eligible dependents, and same-sex domestic partners. Of course, if you're already covered under someone else's plan, you can opt out of health coverage and receive a supplement to your paycheck instead.

Life Insurance

NSMC provides you with Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance at 1x your annual base salary, up to $500,000 at no cost to you. IRS regulations require employees to recognize as taxable income the value of life insurance above $50,000 provided by an employer. The IRS sets the value of that imputed income and that amount is calculated and reported on employee pay stubs in the Deductions section under "Other" (please note, however, this amount is not actually deducted from your pay.)

You also have the option to elect additional coverage for yourself, spouse and/or dependent children.

Short-term Disability

NSMC gives non-exempt employees the option to purchase Short-Term Disability (STD) Coverage at 60% of their base salary, offset by any Social Security or other benefits that they or their family are eligible to receive. NSMC does not contribute to the cost of STD coverage. Your STD payroll deductions are made post-tax.

Employees who work at least 20 hours a week are eligible for this coverage.

Tuition reimbursement

North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) promotes staff education and professional development by offering up to $1500 tuition reimbursement per fiscal year to eligible full-time and part-time employees. Reimbursement amounts are prorated for staff who work less than forty standard hours.

Employee Assistance Program

EAP is a free and confidential professional resource available to all NSMC employees. This department focuses on work-life issues, stress reduction, family matters, crisis intervention and substance abuse, in addition to other areas of expertise. View the EAP website.


Employees who are benefits eligible and work at least 20 standard hours per week can receive MBTA passes through payroll deduction. Employees can enroll in the T pass program through Peoplesoft.
