Siefken accepted the award at the March of Dimes Massachusetts Chapter’s fourth annual Nurse of the Year Awards at State Street Bank in Boston. The award selection committee reviewed nearly 100 applications and chose winners in 13 categories: Administration, Community and Public Health, Education, Labor and Delivery, Maternal/Newborn, Neonatal, Nurse Researcher, Pediatric Family Medicine, Women’s Health, and Antepartum. The Heart Award, Nurse Leader Award, and the Quality Award were also presented.
Siefken first joined NSMC 12 years ago as a staff nurse in the NSMC Birthplace for two years. Siefken left briefly in 2004 to pursue her graduate degree from the University of New Hampshire where she earned her MSN, and then returned to NSMC in 2007, to take on her current role.
“This award recognizes the unwavering focus Carrie gives to our patients’ experience of care in the Birthplace,” said Lisa Cavallaro, RN, director of the NSMC Birthplace. “Carrie goes above and beyond training our nurses and developing creative ways to ensure our patients leave the Birthplace armed with the knowledge they need to care for their newborn babies.”
Siefken received her BA in 2001 from Brown University, her BSN from Columbia University in 2002, and her MSN from the University of New Hampshire in 2005. Siefken currently resides in Swampscott, Mass.

In 2013, the March of Dimes celebrated its 75th Anniversary and its ongoing work to help babies get a healthy start in life.
