North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) honored Donna Barrett, R.N., B.S.N., and Roxanne Worob with the 2019 Robert G. Norton Leadership Award. NSMC President, David Roberts, M.D., presented the awards in January.

The Norton Leadership Award was established in 2017 to honor former NSMC President Robert Norton who retired in 2016 after 15 years of leadership. The award is designed to support NSMC leaders or aspiring leaders who have demonstrated a proactive interest in furthering their professional education and developing their leadership skills.

Donna Barrett, R.N., B.S.N.

Nursing director at NSMC Union Hospital, Donna Barrett, of Peabody, has demonstrated unwavering commitment to  exceptional patient care throughout her 34-year career. Barrett brings positivity and skill to the NSMC Union Campus  and as a leader, supports her staff with compassion and encouragement. Barrett will use her award to pursue a  graduate degree in theology.

“I’ve experienced unwavering support over the years that has enabled me to grow as a leader.” Barrett said. “It was not only my leaders but my staff who taught me how to be successful. If you look to others and look for the best in others, that’s when you can learn the most. Being a leader at NSMC has been a wonderful way to be a lifelong learner.”

Roxanne Worob

Senior Manager for Information Services and Project Management, Roxanne Worob, of Billerica, uses strategic thinking and planning to ensure the best approach and outcomes for patients, staff and NSMC. She works with several departments in the organization to improve the quality of healthcare and is key to the success of the expansion of the Salem campus and the implementation and upgrade of the Epic electronic health information system.

According to her colleagues, Worob recognizes the accomplishments of her staff and coworkers, creating a positive work environment that fosters excellence. Worob will use the Norton Award to continue her certificate program toward a master’s degree in Healthcare Management. “Our job as leaders is to provide motivation, tools and support so staff can succeed. If we give them what they need to do their jobs, we are successful as a team.” Worob said.
