The North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) Salem Hospital Laboratory has been recognized by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) as one of its longest accredited laboratories in the United States. NSMC Salem has met the highest standards of laboratory quality and proficiency testing for over 50 years.

“We’ve had fantastic staff over the past 50 years at the NSMC Salem Lab, who are dedicated to our patients and to their work,” says Bruce A. Beckwith, M.D., NSMC Chair of Pathology. “CAP accreditation is a rigorous and ongoing process and the fact that we have earned and maintained the accreditation for so long is a testament to the expertise and incredible work ethic of our team.”

The CAP’s rigorous standards and requirements enable NSMC to stay in compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations for quality testing. CMS regulates all laboratory testing (except research) performed on humans in the U.S. through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
