North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) has been honored by the New England Society for Healthcare Communications with the 2012 Gold Lamplighter Award for its website in recognition of achieving the highest professional standards in healthcare communications.

NSMC unveiled its new website design and content in November 2011. “The new website provides a more patient-friendly experience and better meets the information needs of our patients and visitors,” explains Laura Fleming, Director of Marketing and Public Relations.

“The new design provides a more engaging and usable format, so users can find the information they need quickly and easily,” says Jean Monahan, Senior Marketing Associate and Web Specialist. All content has been updated and expanded on 2000 pages to provide more detail not only about what services NSMC provides, but also what patients should expect when they arrive and where to find more information. The site incorporates videos and links to social media sites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, as well as interactive features such as a job database and online registration for classes and events.

The Lamplighters were established in 1974 to showcase and honor excellence in health care communications in the New England region. The 2012 competition included more than 300 entries from more than 82 organizations throughout the area. For impartiality, entries were judged by the Minnesota Health Strategy and Communications Network.
