NSMC News Releases

Partnership Provides Vital Service to Patients
1/9/2020

North Shore Medical Center, in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, is proud to announce the launch of the teleSANE program, making NSMC the first hospital on the North Shore to offer enhanced care for sexual assault patients. Through the implementation of secure, video-conferencing technology known as teleSANE, NSMC staff work with expert Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) to provide patients with additional support.

Sixteen of NSMC's talented emergency department nurses have been trained to participate in this program. These specially-trained caregivers are able to call SANE experts in real time using the live video technology, who will guide them through examinations, information gathering and evidence collection.

In addition, NSMC collaborates closely with the YWCA North Shore Rape Crisis Center, Essex County Children’s Advocacy Center, Disabled Persons Protection Commission, and local law enforcement to provide patients with the full scope of care, support and advocacy. The Lynn Health Task Force was a huge advocate for NSMC and supported the implementation of this program.

Representatives from NSMC, the DPH, local law enforcement and community organizations announced the launch of the program at an event on January 8, 2020, at the NSMC Salem Campus.
