Pediatric radiology

Our MRI sites are also able to accommodate children. We have specialty radiologists on staff to meet the unique needs of our pediatric patients. Parents can accompany their children into the scan room and remain throughout the exam.

Implants and conditions that may be affected by an MRI

The strong magnetic field of the MRI can adversely affect some implanted prosthetic devices. Our staff screens for these conditions and devices several times during the screening and history process, as a safety precaution. The types of implants and conditions we need to know about include:

  • Cochlear (middle ear) implant
  • Eye implant
  • Implanted insulin pump
  • Metal fragments (including bullets and shrapnel)
  • Metal particles or chips in your eye
  • Pregnancy (any stage)
  • Retinal tacks
  • Surgical aneurysm clip of the brain
