North Shore Medical Center to host free flu shot clinic for Lynn residents at Union Hospital

Lynn, Mass. – North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) will hold a free flu shot clinic on October 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Healing Atrium at Union Hospital (500 Lynnfield Street) in Lynn. Flu vaccines will be provided at no cost to adults ages 18 and over. 

Each year more than 200,000 people nation –wide are hospitalized from flu-compilations. What begins in early fall, flu season spans several months and lasts until early spring. Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent getting the flu and spreading it to others. Since the flu virus may change from year to year, the Center for Disease Control advises getting a flu vaccine every year.

“NSMC is committed to keeping the Lynn community healthy and this is one step in ensuring we’re successful in our efforts,” says Lori Long, NSMC Director of Community Relations. “By making flu shots readily available for residents, we are able to protect the community for the upcoming flu season.”

Signs and symptoms of flu

People who have the flu often feel some or all of these signs and symptoms:

  • Fever or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (very tired)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

 

In addition to getting vaccinated, we encourage practicing good hygiene this flu season:

  • Wash your hands often
  • cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Stay home if you are sick
