NSMC Encourages Voter Registration Through Non-Partisan Initiative
9/30/2020

NSMC is participating in a health care-based voter registration program call VotER, a non-partisan initiative that helps make it safe and easy for patients, family members and hospital staff to register to vote and request a mail-in ballot for the November election.

Posters in the Emergency Department (in English and Spanish) and flyers handed out at patient check-in/registration points throughout the hospital feature a QR code that when scanned, leads patients to information about registering to vote online, requesting a mail-in ballot and setting up automatic election reminders.

The program was piloted at the MGH Emergency Department by Alister Martin, M.D., in response to the significant overlap between unregistered/non-voters and the most underserved in the health care system. It quickly became a national program and supported by many clinicians and organizations across Mass General Brigham.

“In this country,” Dr. Vogel says, “you should have the opportunity to have your voice heard.”

The deadline to register to vote in Massachusetts is October 24.
