Union Hospital’s operating rooms will be closed this weekend, from 1 p.m., Friday October 26 until midday Sunday, October 27, 2013, while we install new fire dampers in the ventilation system. The dampers act to close off the ventilation system in the event of a fire and prevent further spread.

These important safety improvements are routine and enable us to continue to meet health and safety codes, comply with accreditation requirements and ensure a safe environment for our staff and patients.

Detailed plans are in place to transfer all urgent surgical patients to Salem Hospital during the project. Local ambulance services have been notified and an ambulance will be stationed at NSMC Union Hospital throughout the weekend should an urgent surgical case arise.

The Union Hospital operating rooms will reopen for normal operations Monday morning, October 28, 2013.
