The healthcare system of the future will be defined by value that redesigns care around the patient, expands access to community–based care and uses connectivity to enhance overall health and wellness.
To advance this vision, North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) and Partners Healthcare are moving forward with plans to consolidate hospital-based medical, surgical, and behavioral health services on one campus in Salem to create a stronger regional facility for complex inpatient and emergency care. This consolidation of inpatient care is coupled with the expansion of outpatient community-based services to provide local families with a more accessible and effective health care resource for years to come.
On the NSMC Salem Hospital campus, Phase I of this plan will include construction of a new Emergency Department, 24 new private patient rooms, 90 behavioral health beds.
NSMC will also be expanding outpatient services across the region and partnering with independent community health organizations including the Lynn Community Health Center and North Shore Community Health, Inc., to provide access to important care across a broad spectrum.
Until construction is completed in approximately three years, both Salem and Union hospitals will remain open and operational.

"Our mission to provide the finest care to the patients of greater Lynn, Salem and throughout the North Shore will never change. We truly believe that this consolidation coupled with the investments in primary, urgent and specialty care, behavioral health services, care coordination and community health resources is in the best long-term interests of the communities we serve. In short, we will offer increased access, better care, and lower costs."
