North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) physician, Harvey Zarren, M.D. has received the Dr. E. Augustus Holyoke Memorial Award for his professional excellence and commitment to serving our community.
Dr. Zarren has been caring for patients on the North Shore for over 45 years. He practiced medicine as a cardiologist and internal medicine for over 35 years and in 2001, Dr. Zarren focused his career on wellness, nutrition and healing through hypnosis. He also began two successful NSMC patient support groups: Healing You Heart, a weekly support group for those affected by heart disease and various heart conditions and Healing With Hope a weekly cancer patient support group.
“How we treat each other has biological effects that can change medical outcomes and the intensity of symptoms and suffering. The goal of healthcare must be first of all, to relieve suffering and that has been my major focus during my entire medical career,” explains Dr. Zarren.
Dr. Holyoke, for whom the Holyoke Award is named, was an eminent 18th century Salem physician, whose professional life spanned generations, having a tremendous impact on the health and well being of his community. Each year, the recipient of this award is nominated by his/her peers.
