As natural as breastfeeding is, it does require some education and assistance—even for mothers who have already nursed a child before. The Birthplace offers several resources for the breastfeeding mother and baby at every stage of the cycle. Prenatal breastfeeding classes, lactation consultation, a breastfeeding support group and toll-free telephone counseling are all available to our patients.
Attention Birthplace Patients
Our educational partner, Isis Parenting, has closed its doors effective immediately. They have cancelled all classes and phone consults.
NSMC is working on a permanent plan to continue offering education for our new and expectant parents. In the interim we will offer a few classes that are free to all participants. The cost associated with these classes will resume after our next class in April, 2014. Click to view classes and dates.
If you are a new mom looking for breastfeeding support, we encourage you to attend our free weekly support group. Details are below.
Our International Board Certified lactation specialists provide on-site consultation seven days a week. They create individual breastfeeding plans and offer private office consultations regarding position and latch on, breast or nipple soreness, and assistance with twins, premature infants or babies with challenges.
Breastfeeding Support Group
Whether you are a new or experienced mom, every breastfeeding experience is different. Join us for a free drop-in group for breastfeeding moms and babies. Facilitated by lactation specialists, the group offers mother-to-mother support and sharing of tips and techniques, as well as other topics.
Women who are pregnant and interested in breastfeeding are also invited to attend. Bring a comfy pillow or cushion and enjoy learning and sharing in a comfortable, relaxed environment. Meets every Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Trustee Conference room on Davenport 4 in NSMC Salem Hospital
