Spirituality and Wellness

Pastoral Care Services at North Shore Medical Center include chaplains trained in interfaith ministry, a Catholic priest, a Jewish rabbi, a Catholic nun and a Protestant minister. Eucharistic ministers and local clergy from area parishes, congregations and synagogues also assist the staff. The pastoral team supports patients and their families within the faith community or meaning that sustains them, whether religious or secular. All discussions with our pastoral care team are confidential.

NSMC Salem Hospital chapel

This chapel is located on Davenport 6, near the elevators. A Roman Catholic Mass is offered every Wednesday at noon, and Interfaith Prayer Services are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon.

NSMC Union Hospital chapel

This chapel is located off the South Ground corridor at NSMC Union Hospital, next to the Chaplain’s office. The chapel is always open. A Roman Catholic Mass is offered every Tuesday at noon, and Interfaith Prayer Services are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays at noon.

Pastoral services include:

  • visits with patients and families
  • sacramental care
  • pastoral counseling
  • assistance with ethical dilemmas
  • prayer

Chapel Channel

A Chapel Channel is now available for patients. Tune to Channel 13 while at NSMC Salem Hospital or at MassGeneral for Children at North Shore Medical Center. Tune to Channel 8 while at NSMC Union Hospital.

Gardens

Both NSMC Salem Hospital and NSMC Union Hospital have beautiful garden spaces. The gardens at NSMC Salem Hospital are located off the 4th and 6th floors of the Davenport Building. NSMC Union Hospital offers the Dr. Harvey Zarren Healing Gardens.


Wellness & Integrative Medicine


Our Wellness & Integrative Medicine program offers classes and services at locations in Salem, Danvers and Lynn. Our specially-trained complementary medicine practitioners promote optimal health and healing of the mind, body and spirit through the classes and services they provide.
